Why are gratitude exercises so commonly considered a so great? My theory is, it just makes one feel that life is good. Because it is a perspective thing, whether you see what you lack or see how much has been given to you.
And the point of the exercise is to remind ourselves that there is more good than bad in the world. Because the media already tries to state the exact opposite.
You can be thankful for a lot of things. Like for example, you can be grateful for feeling better than yesterday, the help you have been given and food that you can get to eat every day.
The idea is to not forget to be grateful regularly, to not get stuck by the negativity. I would recommend at least once a day to give thanks. Like people who pray every morning and night for the life they have given. You can also use a gratitude journal to record what you wish. And you can even give thanks for things not yet to happen, manifesting the feelings they would bring. You can do it after visualizing and during it.
I think it was a Stoic quote that said to live life an if at a banquet, taking what is given to you with grace and not making a fool out of yourself like a greedy child demanding everything.
It was the Buddhists who saw the worldly happenings as a game that we all played, and our inner journey as the real adventure.
Now I could give a gorse misrepresentation of all the religious practices, but my own ignorance aside, the idea I try to get across is that it is a matter of perspective on what you could be grateful for.
Thank you for reading.
